Preparation of wax esters begins with the splitting of oils and fats to produce fatty acids and glycerol-containing water. The glycerol water is further sent to the evaporation stage for concentration and further utilization.
The obtained fatty acids undergo distillation and fractionation for purification and separation into fractions. Part of the fatty acids may additionally be withdrawn as separate commercial fractions.
After purification, the fatty acids are sent to the esterification stage, where they react with fatty alcohols to form wax esters. The obtained wax esters are used as feedstock for further hydrogenation and fatty alcohol production.
