After the hydrogenation stage, carbonyl compounds are converted into fatty alcohols in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst. The reaction takes place in a reactor with a fixed catalyst bed, the surface of which is continuously covered with a thin liquid film.
The liquid phase and gaseous hydrogen simultaneously pass through the catalyst bed, ensuring effective contact between the reactants and high process selectivity. As a result of the reaction, fatty alcohols are formed and discharged in liquid form from the bottom section of the reactor for further purification and distillation.
