Counterflow coolers are used in the production of beet pulp pellets to stabilize the product after the pelletizing process. They ensure efficient and uniform cooling by passing cold air in a counterflow to the downward-moving stream of pellets. This operating principle allows for reducing the product’s temperature and moisture content, preserving the integrity of the pellets, increasing their strength, and improving conditions for subsequent storage and transportation.
The counterflow cooler is a vertical design in which pellets are loaded through a top distribution mechanism and evenly spread within the unit. Under the influence of gravity, the product gradually moves downward, where it is cooled by counterflow air introduced from the bottom. This principle allows for highly efficient removal of heat and moisture from the pellet surfaces, ensuring product stability and extended shelf life.
The coolers are equipped with precise product distribution systems, adjustable valves, and discharge mechanisms, ensuring uniform cooling and minimizing the risk of overheating or uneven heat removal. Thanks to its modular construction, the unit can be adapted to different production capacities and specific requirements for the final product.
The cooler is equipped with stainless steel inlet valves, which can be fitted with a retractable rotor for quick inspection and cleaning without dismantling the equipment. This feature is particularly important in operations requiring frequent sanitation. In addition, large access doors are provided for visual inspection and maintenance, allowing cleaning or minor repairs without the need to enter the chamber.
The top distributor, with the drive located outside the cooling zone, prevents product build-up and simplifies maintenance. Thanks to frequency control (VFD), precise speed adjustment ensures an even distribution of pellets across the entire cooling surface. This minimizes the formation of “dead zones” and guarantees stable product quality parameters.
Premium-level coolers are manufactured according to the highest standards, ensuring food safety and suitability for super-premium feed production. The construction eliminates cavities and bolted connections in all product contact zones, with continuous welded and polished seams. Food-grade plastic and fire-resistant glass are used for the doors. This allows the cooler to be fully washed inside and out, preventing cross-contamination.
The design can be equipped with an intermediate deck, enabling cooling of a new batch of pellets while the previous one is still finishing in the main chamber. This significantly increases line productivity. The hydraulic drive system provides sufficient power and high accuracy of discharge control. For plants with enhanced sanitation requirements, the drive can be made of stainless steel, allowing wet cleaning without risk of equipment damage.
