Inclined chain conveyors are used in agriculture to convey bulk and granular materials to elevated levels – feeding hoppers, silos, crushers, mixers, feed processing lines, and other equipment. The curved lifting section allows for compact installation and efficient layout in facilities with limited space, such as grain elevators and agricultural processing plants. The enclosed casing prevents material spillage and keeps the working area clean. This makes the conveyors suitable for handling grain, compound feed, meal, husk, oilcake, pellets, and mixed materials, including those with slight abrasive properties.
Chain conveyors are technically advanced and can be optimally adapted to specific operating conditions. Their design includes the following main components:
Housing. The housing of a trough chain conveyor can be dust-tight, oil-tight, or gas-tight and is made of painted, galvanized, or stainless steel.
Trough variants. Depending on the application, the trough can be designed in a hygienic or wear-resistant version with HDPE or HARDOX lining.
Conveyor chains. Bushing or forged (fork-type) chains are used to ensure smooth operation and low wear.
Drive concepts. Drive systems are selected according to requirements and may include a direct drive with a bevel or flat gear motor, a spur gear motor with chain drive, or a spur gear motor with coupling.
Chain tensioning. Constant chain tension is maintained by tensioning spindles and springs, reducing wear on the chain and sprockets.
Chain conveyors are divided into two main designs, each suitable for different conveying directions and operating conditions.
Horizontal trough chain conveyors. Designed for horizontal or slightly inclined conveying with an inclination angle of up to 15°. They are equipped with flat flights and provide high throughput for large material volumes.
Inclined trough chain conveyors. Used for conveying at steeper angles, from approximately 16° up to vertical. They can be manufactured with curved sections, allowing adaptation to complex layouts and limited installation space.
Various special designs and additional options are available for specific applications and individual requirements.
Explosion-proof design. Intended for operation in environments with potentially explosive gas or dust atmospheres and manufactured in accordance with EU Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX).
Other special designs. These include mobile chain conveyors for truck loading as well as round-bottom conveyors.
Accessories for chain conveyors. Conveyors can be equipped with additional accessories such as overflow flap with sensor, speed monitoring, supports and chutes for installation and material feeding, and shut-off slide gates for blocking the material flow.
