Screw conveyors are used in the mining industry for conveying bulk materials over short to medium distances, as well as for feeding and dosing material between process units. They are suitable for handling fine ore and concentrates, powdery mineral blends, sand, ash, dewatered sludge, and other highly abrasive materials.
The enclosed design reduces dust emissions and material losses while improving operational safety. Screw conveyors can be supplied in trough or tubular configurations, with wear-resistant materials and replaceable liners. When required, explosion-proof versions, level/overload monitoring, and integration into automation systems are available to ensure stable operation in demanding environments.
Screw conveyors are technically advanced and can be optimally adapted to specific applications. The technology includes various components.
Housing. The housing of a screw conveyor can be designed to be dust-tight, oil-tight, or gas-tight, depending on requirements. It is made of painted or galvanized low-carbon steel or stainless steel.
Housing variants. Depending on the application, the screw conveyor can be installed in a folded U-shaped trough with a cover or in a closed tubular casing.
Drive concepts. These can be adapted to specific requirements and include drives with a bevel or flat gear motor, as well as a spur gear motor and coupling.
Screw conveyors are divided into two main designs, each suitable for different conveying directions and applications.
Trough screw conveyors. Designed for horizontal or slightly inclined conveying (up to 20°). They are suitable for transporting bulk and granular materials over short to medium distances and provide easy access for inspection and maintenance.
Tubular screw conveyors. Suitable for steeper conveying directions and characterized by high tightness. The inclination angle can be up to 30°. They are well-suited for dusty, hazardous, or environmentally sensitive materials.
For specific applications and individual requirements, various special designs and additional options are available.
Explosion-proof equipment design. Intended for operation in environments with a potentially explosive gas or dust atmosphere and manufactured in accordance with EU Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX).
Other special designs. These include dosing screw conveyors, mixing screw conveyors, and twin screw conveyors for specific technological tasks.
Accessories for screw conveyors. Сonveyors can be equipped with additional accessories such as overflow protection with a sensor, speed monitoring, supports and chutes for installation and material feeding, as well as shut-off gates for blocking the material flow.
